MUMBAI – State-owned REC Ltd. Friday reported a second consecutive quarter of decline in net profit and revenue for the June quarter. A marginal rise in its expenses also contributed to the fall in its bottom line for the quarter under review.
The power sector financier's net profit fell 7% on year to INR 41.49 billion from INR 44.51 billion. Sequentially, the net profit was up 23%. REC's revenue from operations declined 3% on year to INR 142.96 billion from INR 147.26 billion. Sequentially, the top line was down marginally. In the March quarter, the net profit and the revenue had declined 20% and 5%, respectively. The company's interest income fell 3% on year to INR 141.87 billion.
REC's total expenses were up marginally on year to INR 91.22 billion for the reporting quarter. The company's largest expense, finance costs, declined 2% on year to INR 87.48 billion. Its loss from foreign currency fluctuation surged to INR 9.11 billion from INR 515 million.
The company reported a net interest income of INR 52.12 billion, up 5% on quarter. Its standalone loan book stood at INR 5.9 trillion as of Jun. 30. The company's renewable energy portfolio surged to INR 785.96 billion to make up 13.3% of the overall loan composition.
The company's operating margin declined to 36.19% in the June quarter from 38.29% in the year-ago quarter. The net profit margin declined to 28.95% from 30.21%.
The company's capital adequacy ratio fell to 23.06% in the June quarter from 23.98% in the year-ago quarter. REC's net worth was INR 918.36 billion as of Jun. 30, up 15% on year.
REC declared its first interim dividend of INR 4.25 per share for the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). The record date for the dividend is Jul. 31.
Friday, shares of the company closed at INR 361.60 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.9% from Thursday. The results were announced after market hours. End
