MUMBAI – Apar Industries Ltd. Friday reported strong growth in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter led by robust sales in its conductors and cables segment and a jump in sales in the transformer and oil segment. The company beat the Street's view on net profit and revenue.
Apar Industries reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.67 billion for the June quarter, up 78% from INR 2.63 billion a year ago. The bottom line was way higher than analysts' consensus estimate of INR 2.69 billion. The company's revenue from operations rose 29% on year to INR 65.91 billion, also higher than the estimate of INR 63.57 billion. Sequentially, the revenue was flat while profit rose 84%. The company posted its highest on-year profit growth in 12 quarters.
Total expenses rose 26% on year to INR 60.02 billion during the June quarter. The company's cost of materials rose nearly 27% on year to INR 52.87 billion. Other expenses rose 25% on year to INR 6.41 billion.
The conductors segment remained the largest contributor to Apar Industries' revenues, with sales up 20% on year to INR 33.38 billion. Segment profit rose 16% on year to INR 2.74 billion. Revenues from the transformer and speciality oils segment rose 35% on year to INR 17.01 billion. Segment profit jumped over three times to INR 3.31 billion. The power and telecommunication cables segment reported revenues of INR 18.38 billion, up 30% on year. Segment profit increased 39% on year to INR 1.83 billion.
Total segment revenue rose 26% on year to INR 69.46 billion and total segment profit rose 70% to INR 7.94 billion.
The operating performance of the company also improved significantly. The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation rose 63% on year to INR 8.14 billion from INR 5.01 billion. Apar Industries' EBITDA margin expanded to 12.4% for the June quarter from 9.8%.
The company's conductor division reported sales volume of 53,279 tonnes, down 7% on year and 18% on quarter, as a rise in metal prices affected order bookings and deliveries. The division's domestic revenues increased 19% on year, while export revenue rose 22%. Exports stood at 20.5% of total revenues during the quarter. Revenues from the US market declined 34% on year and 26% sequentially.
Apar Industries ended the quarter with an order book pipeline of INR 101.90 billion in the conductor division, with export orders contributing 57%. New orders worth INR 52.45 billion were bagged in the quarter, including contracts worth over INR 28 billion from two overseas electric utility companies to be executed over the next four years.
The company announced the June quarter earnings during market hours. At 1442 IST, shares of Apar Industries traded at INR 13,862 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 3.2% from Thursday. End
