MUMBAI – Dr Lal Path Labs Ltd. is expected to report a modest on-year rise in its net profit for the June quarter. The bottom line is likely to rise on the back of an increase in test volumes, marginal premiumisation of a variety of tests, and some traction in suburban regions, according to brokerages tracking the company.

The company is expected to report a consolidated net profit of INR 1.43 billion for the reporting quarter, up 8% on year and 9% sequentially, according to the average of estimates from 11 brokerages. The highest estimate for the company's bottom line is INR 1.54 billion from Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd. and the lowest is INR 1.29 billion from SMIFS Ltd.

The healthcare service provider's consolidated revenues are expected at INR 7.57 billion for the June quarter, up 13% on year and 8% on quarter, according to the average of estimates. The highest estimate is INR 7.69 billion from Nuvama and the lowest is INR 7.43 billion from ICICI Securities Ltd. Dr Lal Path Labs' top line is likely to rise because of network expansion, rise in Swasthfit packages, and strong demand for preventive healthcare, brokerages said. The company provides several schemes under Swasthfit packages for full-body medical check-ups at affordable rates, according to its website.

"We expect steady 11% YoY (year-on-year) revenue growth led by stable volume growth (~6% YoY) and a realisation per test improvement," YES Securities Ltd. said. The bottom line is likely to grow due to an increase in test volumes and marginal contribution from case-mix changes, the brokerage added.

Dr Lal Path Labs' earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation are estimated at INR 2.15 billion for the June quarter, up 12% on year and 15% on quarter, according to the average of 10 estimates. The highest estimate is INR 2.22 billion from Nuvama and the lowest is INR 2.02 billion from SMIFS.

Brokerages have mixed views on the company's EBITDA margin for the June quarter. Some brokerages expect it to contract around 111 basis points to 220 bps on year, whereas others expect the margin to expand 9-52 bps on year. Sequentially, the margin is likely to rise 17-226 bps, according to THE estimates of seven brokerages. "We expect EBITDA margin to be stable, as operating leverage offsets continued investments in network expansion," Emkay Global Financial Services Ltd. said. Sequential improvement of around 226 bps in margins is likely to be driven by lower promotional expenditure, YES Securities said.

Dr Lal Path Labs is a diagnostic and healthcare service provider. The Delhi-based company offers tests on blood, urine, and other human body viscera. The company will announce its earnings Friday. Investors will closely watch for management commentary on growth in demand, especially in the preventive testing segment, and plans for lab additions in the current financial year. Additionally, commentary on business-to-customer volume growth, competition intensity from hospitals, and online competitors will also be of interest.

Thursday, shares of the company ended at INR 1,687.10 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down marginally from Wednesday. The stock is up 23% since the company released its March quarter earnings on Apr. 30.

All nine research reports on the company available with Informist have a "buy" or equivalent recommendation on the stock with an average target price of INR 1,764, implying an upside of more than 4% from the current level.
