MUMBAI – Container Corp. of India Ltd. is expected to report healthy on-year growth in its net profit and revenues for the June quarter, according to brokerages tracking the company. Domestic volumes improved after the completion of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, which will likely support earnings growth despite a drag from weak exports and imports, as per brokerages.
The public-sector company is expected to report a standalone net profit of INR 2.85 billion for the June quarter, up 11% on year and 10% sequentially, according to the average of estimates from seven brokerages. The highest estimate for net profit is INR 3.27 billion from Elara Securities (India) Pvt. Ltd. and the lowest is INR 2.34 billion from Nuvama Wealth Management Ltd.
Container Corp. is likely to post revenues of INR 22.14 billion for the June quarter, up over 3% on year but down 2% on quarter, according to the estimates. The highest estimate for revenue is INR 23.09 billion from Elara and the lowest is INR 21.01 billion from Nuvama. The company's revenue per container is likely to fall due to pressure on realisations, but a gradual volume uptick in dedicated freight corridors is expected to limit this decline, Elara said.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. expects the company's total volumes to grow 10% on year, supported by 15% growth in domestic volumes. Nuvama expects volumes to decline 9% on quarter due to a challenging macroeconomic environment. Container Corp.'s volumes are expected to remain flat but slightly better than the Indian Railways' container volume, Kotak Securities Ltd. said.
The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation are estimated at INR 4.54 billion for the June quarter, according to estimates. The highest estimate for EBITDA is INR 5.26 billion from Elara and the lowest is INR 3.95 billion from Nuvama. "We are expecting the EBITDA margin of 20.6%—better on a qoq (quarter on quarter) basis as we anticipate some recovery in domestic business, though the upside is likely to be contained given the weakness on pricing front," Kotak said.
Container Corp. manages the transportation of containers across India and globally through its multimodal logistics network. The company will announce its earnings for the June quarter Friday. The management's commentary on export and import growth, the commissioning of dedicated freight corridors, capital expenditure plans, provisions for land and licence fees, and volume growth in railways freight mainly from the cement sector will be in focus.
Thursday, shares of the company ended at INR 480.5 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down marginally from Wednesday. The company's shares are down 6% since the company reported its March quarter earnings on May 25.
All the five brokerage reports on the company available with Informist have a "buy" recommendation on the stock, with an average target price of INR 572, which is 19% from the current market price.
