MUMBAI – A sharp jump in interest income and fall in provisions led to Suryoday Small Finance Bank's net profit rising the most in 10 quarters on year in Apr-Jun. The lender's net profit rose to INR 752 million in the June quarter, up 113% on year and over 51% on quarter.

Total income rose almost 28% on year to INR 7.70 billion in the June quarter. Of this, interest earned increased nearly 26% on year to INR 6.22 billion.

Total expenses rose nearly 28% on year and 8% sequentially to INR 6.32 billion, largely due to a nearly 32% increase in operating expenses to INR 3.25 billion. The rise in expenses broadly matched the growth in total income, limiting the growth in profitability.

Provisions declined 41% on year to INR 367 million during the quarter, supporting the lender's bottom line. Asset quality was mixed, with the gross non-performing asset ratio inching up to 6.60% as of Jun. 30 from 6.55% three months earlier, while the net NPA ratio improved sharply to 1.27% from 4.21% a quarter ago.

The bank's capital adequacy ratio stood at 20.03% as of Jun. 30, compared with 24.61% a year ago. Suryoday Small Finance Bank's shares closed at INR 194.31 aipiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 7.2% from the previous close. The earnings were announced post-market hours.  End
