MUMBAI – Coromandel International Ltd.'s net profit for the June quarter fell 25% from the year-ago quarter despite its revenue rising. The company's total expenses for the quarter grew faster than its total income. The net profit for the quarter was towards the lower end of estimates provided by brokerages tracking the company. The company's revenue was also towards the lower end of estimates provided by brokerages.


Coromandel International's net profit for the June quarter dropped nearly a fourth to INR 3.81 billion. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit in the range of INR 3.7 billion and INR 5.0 billion. Sequentially, the net profit rose 172%. This is the third quarter in which the company has reported an on-year decline in net profit.

 

Coromandel International's revenue for the June quarter rose nearly 16% on year to INR 81.65 billion. Analysts had expected the company to report revenue in the range of INR 81.6 billion to INR 90.1 billion. This is the slowest revenue rise the company has reported in seven quarters.

 

Coromandel International reported a year-on-year rise of over 9% in its revenue from nutrients for the June quarter to INR 69.51 billion. The revenue from crop protection sales was up over 73% on year at INR 12.5 billion.

 

The company's total expenses in the June quarter rose faster than its revenue. The on-year rise in expenses was 19%. The expenditure on cost of materials consumed and purchase of stock-in-trade for the quarter contributed 94% to the company's total expenses at INR 77.01 billion. The cost of materials consumed for the quarter rose over 29% on year to INR 46.15 billion while purchases of stock-in-trade rose nerly 14% on year to INR 26.67 billion. The company had reported a similar rise in cost of materials for the March quarter.

 

Thursday, shares of Coromandel International closed at INR 2,022.90 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.8% from Wednesday.  End
