Sitharaman says Cong avoiding discussion on paper leak, creating disruption

NEW DELHI – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Thursday accused the Indian National Congress, the principal opposition party, of trying to evade a discussion in Parliament on the pre-medical exam paper leak, and being interested only in disrupting House proceedings.
"Using NEET, using young minds, young students, the Congress party is doing what they are notorious for: disruption of House," Sitharaman told news agency ANI. She said the government had sent a minister to the protest site near the prime minister's residence, and he had "readily agreed" to hold a debate in the House. "Now, they are putting more conditions and disturbing the House," she said. Parliament's Monsoon Session began on Monday.
"If the government is not sensitive or not reacting, I can understand the opposition going on a tirade like this. At the level of the prime minister, a response has been given," the finance minister said, adding that if a discussion is held in Parliament, the details of the action taken by the government in the paper leak case will come out. "They will have no cause for further agitation. They don't want that...it is they who are politicising a sensitive issue which relates to young people of the country," Sitharaman said.
She urged the Opposition to "engage in a comprehensive debate, discuss the issues" on the floor of the House. "If more steps are required, the government will answer the questions here, but discuss. No point in shouting down ministers who are willing to answer," she said. End
