MUMBAI – In the June quarter, CRISIL Ltd. posted its strongest on-year rise in net profit since 2023 despite an increase in total expenses. The company's growth in total revenue from operations for the period was the highest since at least 2017.

The growth in revenue and profit for the first half of 2026 was also healthy. The company follows the calendar year as its financial year.

CRISIL's consolidated net profit for the June quarter rose a little over 26% on year to INR 2.16 billion and its overall revenue increased nearly 28% to INR 10.75 billion. The company's other income, which accounted for only 2% of its total income, fell 27%.

The company's sales from its primary research, analytics, and solutions business were up 30% year-on-year at INR 7.71 billion and profit from this division rose at a slightly higher pace to INR 1.57 billion. However, the research vertical's margin was only 40 basis points higher at 20.4%. The rise in expenses in this business at around 29% was marginally less than the growth in revenue.

The company's Crisil Integral IQ business witnessed demand for its credit lending solutions and fundamental research services, CRISIL said in an earnings press release. Crisil Intelligence saw continued demand for its data analytics, consulting, credit and risk solutions, the company said.

The revenue from CRISIL's rating services vertical rose 21.4% on year to INR 3.05 billion and its profit for this business grew 31% to INR 1.35 billion. The segment's margin was robust at 44.3%, 330 bps higher than in the corresponding quarter a year ago. The margin grew even as the company raised its spends for the segment by 15% during the quarter.

For the June quarter, the quantum of issuances in the corporate market fell 26% on year to INR 2.69 trillion and the number of issuers had also declined to about 430 from 510, CRISIL noted. Bank credit growth, meanwhile, rose to 17.7% as of May.

The net impact of foreign exchange movement was a loss of INR 82 million for the June quarter, as against a gain of INR 144 million in the March quarter, according to CRISIL.

For the first half of this calendar year, CRISIL reported a nearly 36% year-on-year rise in its consolidated net profit at INR 4.5 billion, while its revenue increased 29% to INR 21.33 billion. Sales from its research and analytics division were up 32% for the period, while those from its ratings services business rose 21% on year.

For 2026-27 (Apr-Jun), India's GDP is seen growing 6.6%, CRISIL said in its investor presentation. Growth will be supported by the government's capital expenditure plans, services exports, and private consumption even as high energy and commodity costs pose challenges. The country's inflation, meanwhile, is expected to rise 5.1% in FY27, CRISIL said.

CRISIL will pay INR 10 per share as second interim dividend for the year ending December. The company reported its earnings for the June quarter and the first half of 2026 late Tuesday evening. Shares of the company closed almost 2% higher at INR 4,302.40 on the National Stock Exchange on Tuesday.  End
