Adani Energy Apr-Jun transmission revenue up 36% YoY at INR 16 billion

AHMEDABAD – Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. has seen a higher-than-expected net profit and revenue from operations for the June quarter on the back of a jump in its transmission, distribution and smart meter business, the company said in a release accompanying its earnings filing with stock exchanges. For the June quarter, the company's revenue from its transmission segment was nearly INR 16 billion, 36% higher compared with nearly INR 11.7 billion in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

 

The company's smart meter operations revenue jumped to INR 3.1 billion, from INR 980 million. Its revenue from distribution segment was up 5% on year at INR 35.2 billion, from INR 33.6 billion in June quarter a year ago. The distribution loss in the Adani Energy Mumbai Ltd. network at 5.16%, impacted by extreme heatwave conditions resulting in higher energy consumption and increase in distribution loss.

 

The filing by the company shows that it sold 2.9 billion units of electricity in the Mumbai circle in the June quarter, up 11% on year. Adani Energy Solutions also sold 425 million units in the Mundra region in Apr-Jun, up 57% year-on-year, driven by industrial demand. As of Jun. 30, the company also installed a total of 13.44 million smart meters.

 

For the June quarter, the consolidated net profit of the company rose 2.24 times to INR 11.49 billion, which exceeded the Street's view of INR 7.68 billion. The consolidated revenue from operations rose 42% on year to INR 97.11 billion, which was also above analysts' estimate of INR 80.94 billion. The company's consolidated operating margin for the quarter expanded 472 basis points on year to 31.27%. The operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the quarter were INR 27.8 billion, nearly 70% higher than June quarter a year ago.

 

Adani Energy Solutions has a presence across multiple segments of the energy domain, including power transmission, distribution, smart metering, and cooling solutions. The company is also ramping up its smart metering business and is on course to become India's leading smart metering integrator. It is the country's largest private transmission company with a cumulative transmission network of 27,949 circuit kilometres. In its retail electricity distribution business, Adani Energy serves nearly 13 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and the industrial hub of Mundra special economic zone.

 

Adani Energy's 13 transmission projects under construction stand at nearly INR 718 billion, and metering order book is of 24.6 million meters, with a revenue potential of INR 295 billion, the company said in a press release. "The near-term tendering pipeline in the transmission sector remains robust at INR 1.1 trillion. Whereas the nationwide market opportunity for smart metering continues at 103 million meters," the company added.

 

Tuesday, shares of Adani Energy ended at INR 1,737, up 0.4% from the closing price Monday.  End
