MUMBAI – Canara Robeco Asset Management Co. Tuesday reported a 24% year-on-year rise in its bottom line for the June quarter as growth in its total income sharply outpaced that in expenses. The asset manager saw robust growth of nearly 83% in its net profit sequentially.
The company--which is jointly held by Canara Bank and Japanese firm ORIX Corp.--reported a net profit of INR 756.03 million for the June quarter, up from INR 609.77 million in the year-ago quarter. Its total income rose 20% on year to INR 1.46 billion, up over 40% sequentially. Both the revenue from operations and the other income of the fund manager showed strong year-on-year growth of nearly 20% and 73%, respectively.
The company's net gain on fair value changes rose over 21% on year to INR 291.73 million. Its expenses in the reporting quarter rose 12% on year and about 2% sequentially to INR 464.92 million. Of this, employee benefit expenses rose 13% on year to INR 281.53 million. A rise in tax payments ate into the company's profit. Its tax expenses rose nearly 26% on year and 41% on quarter to INR 237.47 million.
The asset manager's mutual fund quarterly average assets under management rose nearly 7% on year to INR 1.19 trillion in the June quarter. Its outstanding systematic investment plan accounts fell to 2 million in the reporting quarter from 2.14 million in the year-ago quarter. The ratio of the quarterly average assets under management of equity-oriented mutual funds to the total quarterly average assets under management of mutual fund schemes managed by the company for the June quarter was 91.05%, slightly lower than 91.17% in the year-ago period. The number of distributors of the fund grew to 56,819 as of Jun. 30 from 52,343 a year ago. Shares of the company ended at INR 252.20 apiece on the National Stock Exchange Tuesday, down 1.4% from Monday. End
