India rainfall 39% above normal on Tue, season's deficit at 21%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 13.4 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 39?ove the normal of 9.6 mm, according to the data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 21, the country received 276.8 mm of rain, 21?low the normal of 351.7 mm for the period.
India's daily rainfall has improved since Monday amid a revival of monsoon over some northern parts of the country. For over a week, India has been logging below-normal daily rainfall amid a lack of active weather systems. This was a stark difference from the first week of July, when the country recorded above-normal daily rainfall.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, northwest India registered "large excess" rains on Tuesday, while east, northeast India and the south peninsula regions received "normal" rains. Central India received "excess" rains on Tuesday.
The east and northeast received 6?ove-normal rains at 14.5 mm of rainfall on Tuesday, while central India recorded 16.2 mm of rainfall, 40?ove the normal. South peninsular India registered 5?ove-normal rains at 7.5 mm, and northwest India recorded 13.4 mm of rainfall, 89?ove the normal.
On Tuesday, coastal Karnataka received the highest rainfall at 43.7 mm, followed by Konkan & Goa at 41.5 mm, according to IMD data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 13, "excess" in six, "large deficient" in six, "deficient" in four, "normal" in six, according to the data. There was no rainfall in one subdivision. End
