MUMBAI – Bandhan Bank Tuesday reported a significant on-year growth in its bottom line for the June quarter driven by a sharp fall in provisions. However, the lender still missed the Street's view for its bottom line. The bank's total income rose only marginally on year.

 

For Apr-Jun, the private sector lender reported a near 35% on-year jump in its bottom line to INR 5.02 billion. Analysts had expected the bank to report net profit of INR 5.44 billion. The bank's provisions for the June quarter fell over 40% on year to INR 6.83 billion. The lender's total income for the quarter ended June was INR 62.34 billion, up a mere 1% on year.

 

 

The bank's net interest income for the June quarter was INR 29.21 billion, up nearly 6% on year. While the lender's interest income rose nearly 3% on year to INR 56.31 billion, interest expenses fell marginally to INR 27.10 billion. Net interest margin remained unchanged on quarter at 6.2%.

 

The lender's asset quality improved slightly on quarter with the bank reporting a gross non-performing asset ratio to 3.15% as on Jun. 30 from 3.27% a quarter ago. The bank's net non-performing asset ratio improved to 0.93% from 0.97% in the quarter ago. Further, the lender's provision coverage ratio stood at 85.9% as Jun. 30, while capital adequecy ratio was 18.15%.

 

 

 

The lender's June quarter credit cost fell 15 basis points sequentilly to 1.8%. The bank's fresh slippages for the June quarter fell over 30% on year to INR 10.8 billion, while it reported a near 41% on-year increase in its recoveries and upgrades to INR 4.5 billion. For Apr-Jun, the lender wrote off loans worth INR 6 billion, down nearly 43% from the year-ago period. The bank also appointed Vinay Jain as the interim chief financial officer from Sept. 26 to Mar. 31.

 

Bandhan Bank declared its June quarter earnings after market hours. Tuesday, shares of the bank closed at INR 208.83, down over 1% on the National Stock exchange.  End
