No case of locker theft reported by public sector bks in FY26, says fin min

NEW DELHI – There have been no case of locker theft in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) in any of the public sector banks, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary Tuesday said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. There were 40 cases of locker theft from FY22 to FY26, the minister said. Public sector banks provided a total of 11.1 million lockers as on Mar. 31.
He said a number of steps have been taken by banks to prevent thefts, including board-approved policy and enhanced safety and security standards for lockers. "Banks are required to ensure that locker premises are adequately secured against criminal break-ins as well as natural and man-made hazards," Chaudhary said.
In response to a question about misbehaviour of bank officials and loan recovery agents, Chaudhary said 18,021 complaints were received by the Reserve Bank of India in FY26. In FY25, there were 8,623 complaints. He said, "Department of Financial Services reviews and takes action as per grievance redressal system regularly. In addition, the banks have put in place robust monitoring and compliance framework to ensure adherence to the guidelines issued by the RBI". End
