NEW DELHI – The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation has granted marketing authorisation to Takeda Biopharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd. for Qdenga, making it the first dengue vaccine approved in India for individuals aged 4-60 years. Qdenga will be administered as two 0.5-millilitre subcutaneous doses, given three months apart, according to a release by the Press Information Bureau. 
 

The vaccine, manufactured by Takeda GmbH, Germany, is a recombinant live attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine and will be imported into India by Takeda Biopharmaceuticals India. It has been approved after the regulator evaluated its quality, safety, and efficacy under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules. The vaccine is produced using recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid technology in Vero cells and contains genetically modified organisms.
 

"The vaccine has already received regulatory approval in 42 countries, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, and has also received World Health Organization (WHO) prequalification. Globally, more than 24 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed. Post-marketing surveillance data from countries where the vaccine is in use have demonstrated a favourable safety profile, with no significant safety concerns identified," the press releases said.  End
