--InterGlobe Aviation signs MoU with CFM Intl for order of over 1,000 engines
MUMBAI – InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., which runs budget carrier IndiGo, said Monday it has signed a memorandum of understanding with CFM International, the world's largest commercial aircraft engine manufacturer, for over 1,000 LEAP-1A engines for 510 Airbus A320neo aircraft. This is the largest single order ever placed for LEAP engines and is a record for CFM International, InterGlobe said in a release.
The deal between InterGlobe Aviation and CFM International includes support in the creation of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility for the Indian company. CFM International will also support IndiGo's fleet through a long-term material services agreement, including the supply of spare parts and other related services.
CFM International is a 50:50 joint venture between GE Aerospace and French firm Safran Aircraft Engines. India is CFM International's third largest market as five Indian carriers operate over 400 aircraft with these engines, and 2,000 more engines are on order.
IndiGo had ordered LEAP-1A engines for its Airbus A320/321neo aircraft in 2019. IndiGo operates a sub-fleet of Airbus A320neo aircraft powered by CFM's CFM56-5B engines.
For the March quarter, the company reported a net loss of INR 26.62 billion on revenues of INR 224.38 billion. Monday, its shares closed 0.4% lower at INR 5,229 on the National Stock Exchange. End
