MUMBAI - Shyam Metalics & Energy Ltd. posted strong growth in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter due to a rise in realisations across products. Better product prices helped the company beat the Street's view on net profit and revenue.

Shyam Metalics reported a consolidated net profit of INR 3.45 billion for the June quarter, up 18% on year and 8% on quarter. The net profit was higher than analysts' expectation of INR 3.09 billion. The company's revenue from operations rose to INR 54.55 billion, up just over 23% on year from INR 44.23 billion in the year-ago quarter.

The total expenses of the company rose 22% on year to INR 46.90 billion for the reporting quarter, with cost of materials up over 28% on year at INR 42 billion. Other expenses rose to INR 6.39 billion, up 21% on year.

Higher cost of material and depreciation limited the growth in profits during the June quarter. The earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortistaion were INR 8.12 billion for the June quarter, up over 28% on year. The EBITDA margin improved to 14.9% from 14.3% a year ago.

The company's product realisations grew in the range of 2-32% on year in the June quarter. Its aluminium product realisations showed the highest growth at INR 483,467 per tonne while carbon steel realisation reported the slowest rise at INR 45,777 per tonne. Stainless steel product realisations improved to INR 175,925 per tonne, up 27% on year, the company said in a press release.

The company released its financial results during market hours. On Monday, shares of Shyam Metalics closed at INR 1,055 on the National Stock Exchange, up 3% from Friday.

The company has declared interim dividend of INR 1.80 per equity share. The record date for the dividend is Jul. 24. The company's board of directors also approved a proposal to raise up to INR 45 billion through issuance of equity shares and other securities convertible to equity shares, to support its long-term expansion initiatives and capital expenditure, it said in an exchange filing. It will raise funds in one or more tranches. Qualified institutional placement and follow-on public offer have also been listed as methods for the fund raising.

"We also achieved a significant operational milestone with the commencement of commercial production at our aluminium foil facility in Odisha, marking an important step in building a fully integrated downstream aluminium ecosystem," Chairman and Managing Director Brij Bhushan Agarwal said in the press release.  End
