MUMBAI –  Amid forecasts of extreme heavy rainfall, India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh till Tuesday. Many more places are expected to receive extremely heavy rain on Monday and the department has issued red alerts for Uttarakhand, west as well as east Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Some northeast states such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura have also been also warned about extremely heavy showers on Monday. 

 

For the next four to five days, monsoon conditions are likely to be active over northeast and northwest India, including Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi, west and east parts of Uttar Pradesh as well as west and east of Rajasthan, the weather department said. 

 

In central India, IMD has forecast that east Madhya Pradesh will receive 'heavy' rainfall on Monday, intensifying into 'very heavy' rainfall Tuesday. Meanwhile, west Madhya Pradesh is likely to get 'heavy' rainfall till Thursday, and Chhattisgarh till Saturday. 

 

In east India, Bihar is expected to see 'extremely heavy' rainfall at isolated places on Monday and 'very heavy' rainfall Tuesday. Very heavy showere are also expected over Jharkhand, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim on Monday. 

 

In northeast India, 'very heavy' showers are expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Tuesday, while Assam and Meghalaya are expected to have similar rain conditions on Tuesday. In west India, 'very heavy' rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from Tuesday to Wednesday.

 

The weather department does not expect 'very heavy' or 'extremely heavy' rains over south India during the next few days. "Subdued rainfall activity likely to continue over westcentral & south Peninsular India during next 7 days," it said.  End
