MUMBAI – India received 6.7 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday, 27% below the normal of 9.2 mm, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–Jul. 18, the country received 244.6 mm of rainfall, 24% below the normal of 323.1 mm for the period.

All four homogenous regions in the country recorded below normal rainfall on Saturday. Though the intensity of rainfall has increased over parts of east and northeast India due to the presence of active weather systems over the region, the amount of precipitation remains below normal for this time of the season. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 27% below normal at 9.7 millimetres on Saturday, the data showed.

Rainfall over northwest, central, and south peninsula India remains subdued. In northwest India, rainfall was 50% below normal at 3.4 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 19% below normal at 8.8 millimetres, while in south peninsula India, it was 14% below normal at 5.8 millimetres, according to the data.

Out of 36 subdivisions, rainfall was "large deficient" in 11, "deficient" in 10, "normal" in seven, "excess" in six, and "large excess" in one. One subdivision, west Rajasthan, did not record any rainfall on Saturday, the data showed.  End
