MUMBAI – India Cements Ltd. reported a net profit for the June quarter against a net loss a year ago, owing to a fall in expenses. However, the bottom line was hit by a net one-time cost. The company posted subdued revenue for the reporting quarter.
The company reported a net profit of INR 266.20 million for Apr-Jun, against a net loss of INR 75.30 million a year ago. Sequentially, the bottom line fell over 51%. The company incurred a net one-time cost of INR 252.80 million during the quarter. India Cements reported a profit of INR 299.80 million on sales of assets, while creating a provision for disputed liabilities from earlier years amounting to INR 552.60 million. Excluding the net one-time cost, India Cements' net profit would have been INR 519 million.
The Aditya Birla Group company's revenue for the reporting quarter was INR 10.19 billion, down marginally on year and 17% sequentially. India Cements' total income fell 1% on year to INR 10.23 billion. Total expenses were at INR 9.62 billion, down nearly 8% on year. Among the expenses, raw materials costs rose over 12% on year to INR 2.46 billion.
The company's employee benefit costs fell over 23% on year to INR 476.20 million, and depreciation and amortisation expenses were at INR 719.4 million, down nearly 3% on year. The company's operating margin was 15.28%, against 7.99% a year ago and 12.65% a quarter ago. The net profit margin was 2.60%, against (-)0.73% a year ago.
The cement maker's operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter were at INR 1.56 billion, sharply higher than INR 830 million in the corresponding quarter year ago. Its sales realisation per tonne was INR 3,847, 2% up on year.
On Friday, shares of India Cements closed at INR 410.30 on the National Stock Exchange, up 3.1% over Thursday. End
