India Thursday rainfall 57% below normal, seasonal deficit at 24%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded rainfall of 4.3 millimetres on Wednesday, 57?low the normal of 10.0 mm, according to data from the Indian Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1-Jul. 16, the country received 231.3 mm of precipitation, 24?low the normal of 304.2 mm.
On Thursday, all four homogeneous regions in the country received 'deficient' or 'large deficient' rainfall. Rainfall in the South Peninsula region was 95?low normal, at 0.4 mm compared with a normal of 7.0 mm. Three of the 10 subdivisions in the region recorded no rainfall.
In northwest India, rainfall was 90?low normal at 0.8 mm. Meanwhile, rainfall improved in central India to 7.9 mm Thursday, narrowing the daily rainfall deficit to 33% from 72% Wednesday. The weather department expects heavy showers in the region over Chhattisgarh and east Madhya Pradesh from Friday to Tuesday and over Vidarbha on Friday and Saturday.
Increased rainfall activities are also expected over most parts of east and northeast India till Wednesday. The region recorded 39?low-normal rainfall, at 8.6 mm, according to the data.
In the 36 subdivisions of the country, rainfall was 'large deficient' in 24, 'deficient' in seven, the data showed. Three subdivisions did not receive any rainfall, while one each recorded 'normal' and 'large excess' rainfall. End
