NEW DELHI/HYDERABAD – Wipro Ltd. Thursday posted a moderate sequential decline in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter as total expenses of the company rose faster than the top line for the three months. Both the bottom line as well as the top line missed the Street's expectations for the quarter.

Wipro's consolidated net profit for the June quarter fell over 4% sequentially to INR 33.52 billion. The bottom line was flat on a year-on-year basis. The Street had widely estimated a sequential decline in the metric on the incremental impact of wage hikes which became effective Mar. 1, but analysts had pegged the figure at INR 34.32 billion.
The Bengaluru-based company's consolidated revenue for reporting quarter rose 1% sequentially and nearly 11% on year to INR 244.79 billion. It fell short of analysts' consensus estimate of INR 248.18 billion by a small margin.

Segment-wise, the energy and manufacturing vertical reported a 3.6?ll in sales for the quarter, while the banking and financial services segment reported a 1.2?cline. While the consumer vertical sales saw a marginal improvement of 0.7% for the quarter, healthcare segment sales declined 2.6% quarter-over-quarter on a constant currency basis. Communication vertical sales increased by a marginal 0.2% in the quarter.
For the June quarter, Wipro gained 49 new customers, against 30 a quarter ago. The total active customers for the quarter was 1,233, unchanged from a quarter ago, the company said.
During the quarter, Wipro booked large deals worth $1.63 billion, against $1.44 billion a quarter ago. The total deal booking was at $3.37 billion, against $3.46 in the trailing quarter.
Wipro reported a decline in operating margin for its information technology vertical, a key business segment of the company, by 130 basis points at 16% from 17.3% a quarter ago. The operating cash flow for the quarter was up 3.6% quarter-on-quarter at INR 32.9 billion.
The company's employee headcount as on Jun. 30 was 243,044 compared to 242,156 as on Mar. 31. While utilisation, excluding trainees, was 83.6% against 83.5% a quarter ago, the attrition rate was 13.9%, against 13.8% a quarter ago.
