Piramal Finance PAT up 66% YoY on rise in interest income, AUM

NEW DELHI – Piramal Finance Ltd.'s net profit for the June quarter rose over 66% on year, mainly on the back of healthy growth in interest income and assets under management. However, the company's bottom line fell sequentially.
The company, formerly known as Piramal Capital & Housing Finance Ltd., reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.59 billion for Apr-Jun, up from INR 2.76 billion a year ago. Its consolidated revenue from operations for the quarter was INR 33.68 billion, up nearly 28% on year but down nearly 2% sequentially. The non-banking finance company's consolidated total income for the quarter rose 28% to INR 34.30 billion. In Jan-Mar, the total income was INR 26.90 billion.
The company's board has approved raising funds worth up to INR 40 billion. Shares of the company ended at INR 2,186.50 on the National Stock Exchange, up nearly 1% from the previous close.
Piramal Finance's total assets under management grew 25% on year to INR 1.07 trillion as on Jun. 30. Its retail assets under management rose 32% on year to INR 912.49 billion and wholesale assets under management grew 27% on year to INR 132.38 billion at the end of the June quarter. The retail and wholesale assets under managment mix was 85:15 in the latest quarter, compared to 80:20 a year ago.
The asset quality of the company remained stable. As on Jun. 30, the gross non-performing assets ratio improved to 2.4% from 2.3% at the end of March. The net non-performing assets ratio for the quarter was 1.6%, unchanged from a quarter ago.
Its retail disbursements rose 44% on year to INR 125.27 billion, reflecting strong customer demand and sustained business momentum, the company said in a press release. In the housing loans sub-segment, disbursements rose 15% on year to INR 27.70 billion in the June quarter. Similarly, its disbursements under used car loans segment grew 15% on year to INR 7.68 billion during the quarter under review.
The company's net interest income rose 43% on year to INR 14.42 billion. Its cost of borrowing remained stable sequentially at 8.8% in the reporting quarter. The net income margin expanded by 47 basis points on year to 6.5%, according to the release. The net income margin was stable on quarter.
Total expenses grew 25% on year INR 30.85 billion in the June quarter, but fell nearly 13% sequentially. Its finance cost grew 16% on year to INR 17.34 billion and other expenses rose over 8% to INR 3.29 billion in Apr-Jun.
Piramal Finance expanded its footprint to 780 branches across 607 cities in 26 states, the company said. Its customer franchise grew 24% on year to 6 million, further strengthening its presence across India, it added. End
