MUMBAI – Snacks and sweets company Bikaji Foods International Ltd. is expected to report only slightly higher consolidated net profit on year for the June quarter, according to brokerages tracking the company. The profit growth will be supported by price hikes and volume growth, which will help it overcome input cost inflation caused by the West Asia war. The company's revenue growth is expected to be almost twice the growth in net profit.
The Bikaner-based company is expected to report a consolidated net profit of INR 618.33 million, up almost 6% on year and 10.4% sequentially, according to the average of estimates from six brokerages. The company's June quarter net sales are expected at INR 7.34 billion, up 11.6% on year and marginally higher than in the trailing quarter.
The highest estimate for the company's June quarter net profit is INR 650 million from JM Financial Institutional Securities Pvt. Ltd. and the lowest is INR 578 million from Systematix Shares and Stocks (India) Ltd. The highest estimate for the company's June quarter net sales is INR 7.34 billion from Systematix. and the lowest is INR 7.19 billion from JM Financial.
The company is scheduled to announce its earnings on Aug. 5.
Demand for fast moving consumer goods has improved over the past few quarters, brokerages said. Companies in this sector managed to pass on higher costs to consumers in the reporting quarter. Bikaji Foods increased prices by 4% in April to counter higher costs.
Revenue growth is expected to remain largely volume-led in the June quarter. Volume is expected to grow 8% on year. The company's net sales growth for the reporting quarter is likely to be slower than in the previous quarter due to a four-to-five day production disruption following the promoter's demise and the impact of elections in West Bengal.
Bikaji Foods is expected to report earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation of INR 965.33 million for the reporting quarter, flat from the year-ago quarter, according to the estimates. The highest EBITDA estimate is INR 1.02 billion from JM Financial and the lowest is INR 906 million from Systematix.
The company's EBITDA margin for the June quarter is seen at 13.6%, according to Motilal Oswal. The contraction of 120 bps on year is due to higher input costs, mainly packaging costs, due to the war in West Asia.
All the six research reports on the company available with Informist have a "buy" recommendation on the stock at an average target price of INR 811 per share. This is about 26% higher than the closing price on Wednesday.
