MUMBAI – India recorded rainfall of 2.6 millimetres on Wednesday, 73?low the normal of 9.6 millimetres, data from the Indian Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1-Jul. 15, India received 227 millimetres of precipitation, 23?low the normal of 294.2 millimetres. 

 

On Wednesday, all four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal precipitation. Rainfall in south peninsula region was 98?low normal, recording 0.1 mm against the normal of 6.9 mm, the data showed. Seven of the 10 subdivisions in the region recorded no rainfall. 

 

The weather department has issued heatwave warnings for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema till Thursday. Hot and humid weather conditions are likely over the same regions on Friday, IMD said. 

 

In northwest India, rainfall was 85?low normal at 1.1 mm. Central India recorded 3 mm of rainfall, or 72?low normal. East and northeast India recorded 45?low normal rainfall at 7.9 mm, IMD data showed. 

 

In the 36 subdivisions of the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 20, and "deficient" in five, the data showed. Nine subdivisions did not receive any rainfall, while two recorded "excess" rainfall.  End
