MUMBAI – Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area formed over the same region in the early hours of Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. This low pressure area is likely to become more marked and move across Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal in the next two days, causing enhanced rainfall activity over east and northeast India and the western Himalayan region in the next seven days, the weather department said.

 

Along with the low pressure area, multiple upper air cyclonic circulations lie over east and northeast India. Under their combined influence, very heavy showers are expected over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Sunday and Monday, over Gangetic West Bengal on Thursday, over Bihar from Saturday to Monday, over Odisha on Thursday and Friday, and over Arunachal Pradesh till Thursday. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected over multiple parts of east and northeast India till Tuesday, the weather bureau said.

 

Rainfall activity is expected to remain subdued over west, central, and south peninsular India in the next seven days, and over the plains of northwest India in the next five days, the bureau said. 

 

A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu, while another fresh western disturbance is expected to impact northwest India from Sunday, the weather department said. These systems are likely to cause heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over several parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the department said.

In central India, heavy showers are expected over east Madhya Pradesh during the weekend and over Chhattisgarh on Thursday and Friday, the weather bureau said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over most parts of central India till Tuesday, it said. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected over parts of central Maharashtra and Marathwada till Thursday, while light to moderate showers are likely to continue over many parts of west India till Tuesday.

 

Heatwaves are expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry till Thursday, while hot and humid weather conditions are likely over the same regions on Friday, the department said. Hot and humid weather is also expected in pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab till Friday, and over coastal Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana till Thursday.  End
