MUMBAI – Hero MotoCorp Ltd. Tuesday said its committee of directors has approved an additional investment of INR 10 billion in electric two-wheeler company Ather Energy Ltd. via subscription of equity shares or other eligible securities representing equity shares on a preferential allotment basis. Hero MotoCorp currently has a 29.48% stake in Ather Energy, which is its associate company.
Ather Energy's board is set to meet on Wednesday to approve potential proposals to raise funds through equity shares or through other means. The quantum of increase or decrease in Hero MotoCorp's stake in Ather Energy after the subscription of additional securities goes through depends on the pricing of the preferential issue and further issuance of securities as approved by the board of the latter, Hero MotoCorp said in an exchange filing. The acquisition of these shares is expected to conclude in 15 days after the approval of the same by the board of Ather Energy.
Hero MotoCorp had first invested in Bengaluru-based automobile firm Ather Energy in 2016, when it had poured in INR 1.80 billion for a 26% stake. Apart from Ather Energy, the company has also made sizeable investments in Euler Motors. Furthermore, Hero MotoCorp has a presence in the electric two-wheeler space through its own brand, Vida.
For the March quarter, Hero MotoCorp had reported a net profit of INR 14.01 billion on revenues of INR 127.97 billion while Ather Energy reported a net loss of INR 1.00 billion on revenues of INR 11.75 billion. Tuesday, shares of Hero MotoCorp closed 1.5% lower at INR 4,878.30 and those of Ather Energy ended 1.5% higher at INR 1,201.80 on the National Stock Exchange. End
