Govt to prohibit import of goods produced using forced labour

NEW DELHI – The government has tweaked the foreign trade policy to curb the import of goods produced using forced labour. "The import of goods produced or manufactured, wholly or in part, through the use of forced labour is prohibited," a notification from the commerce ministry said.
The ministry said "forced labour" will cover all work or service that is exacted from any person under menace of any penalty and for which the person has not offered himself or herself voluntarily, as defined by the International Labour Organization. The provisions will come into effect after the expiry of 30 days from the date of publication in the official gazette, as per the notification. End
