IMD says India Tue rainfall 76% below normal; no rain in most parts of south

MUMBAI – India recorded below-normal rainfall Tuesday as the country received 2.1 millimetres of precipitation, 76?low the normal of 8.9 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. In the period Jun. 1-Jul. 14, India received 224.5 millimetres of rainfall, 21?low the normal of 284.6 millimetres.
All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal precipitation Tuesday. Rainfall in the south peninsular region was 98?low normal, with 0.2 mm of precipitation against the normal of 6.6 mm, the data showed. Seven out of 10 subdivisions in south India received no rainfall.
Central India recorded 91?low-normal rainfall, receiving 0.9 mm against the normal of 9.9 mm. Eight out of 10 subdivisions in this part of the country did not record any rainfall.
The north-west region recorded 91?low-normal rainfall, receiving 0.7 mm against the normal of 7.5 mm of precipitation. Two subdivisions out of nine in this region did not record any rainfall. The east and north-east region recorded 23?low-normal rainfall, receiving 9.9 mm against the normal of 12.8 mm.
In the 36 subdivisions of the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 15 and "deficient" in four, the data showed. One subdivision each recorded "large excess", "excess", and "normal" rainfall. Fourteen subdivisions recorded no showers. End
