Fire in a Jain Resource unit causes demise of a labourer, injuries to others

MUMBAI – A furnace exploded at a manufacturing facility of Jain Resource Recycling Ltd. on Tuesday, which "unfortunately resulted in the demise of one labourer and injuries to certain other labourers," the company said in a stock exchange filing. The company expressed its regret at the fire incident and said it was providing support and assistance to the family of the deceased and the other affected persons and their families.
The explosion has led to a shutting down of operations in the affected section of the factory, Jain Resource Recycling said in the exchange filing. The company said it was evaluating the extent of damage or loss due to the fire incident, but also claimed that "the damage caused due to the fire accident is covered under insurance."
It was not clear whether a fire caused the explosion or the explosion led to a fire. According to the company, the fire incident occurred in its factory at Unit 2 of SIPCOT Industrial Complex in Gummidipoondi in Tamil Nadu.
As per the company's annual report for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), it is the largest non-ferrous metal recycling company in India. The company manufactures copper, lead and aluminium products, including ingots and alloys, by way of recycling of copper, lead, and aluminium scrap.
Tuesday, shares of Jain Resource Recycling closed 2.5% down at INR 330 on the National Stock Exchange. End
