NEW DELHI – The government's net direct tax collections rose 16% year-on-year to INR 6.512 trillion during Apr. 1-Jul. 13, buoyed by a 22% increase in corporate tax collections, data released by the finance ministry showed Tuesday. Net direct tax collections so far accounted for 24.1% of the Budget target of INR 26.97 trillion for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar).
On a gross basis, the government collected INR 7.737 trillion as of Jul. 13, up 16% on year. The robust net tax collections are despite the government issuing refunds worth INR 1.225 billion during the period, up 14.6% on year.
Net corporate tax collections during the period rose 22% on year to INR 2.402 trillion. Non-corporate tax collections grew 12% on year to INR 3.845 trillion. Non-corporate tax includes taxes paid by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, firms, associations of persons, bodies of individuals, local authorities, and artificial juridical persons. The Budget had projected corporate tax collections to grow 11% to INR 12.31 trillion in FY27.
The government has collected securities transaction tax worth INR 264.29 billion as of Monday, up 48% year-on-year, likely due to the increase in the securities transaction tax on futures transactions to 0.05% from 0.02% in the Budget for FY27.
The government has projected total tax collections in FY27 at INR 44.04 trillion, up 9.4% on year. Of this, it aims to collect INR 26.97 trillion as direct taxes, up 18.1% from FY26. The government aims to collect INR 737 billion from securities transaction tax in FY27. End
