MUMBAI – After another week of consolidation, the Nifty Bank sectoral index is expected to rise next week on the back of positive earnings from lenders this week which have set the pace for the industry, analysts said. "Positive business updates from banks, along with a constructive outlook for the IT (information technology) sector driven by in-line estimates, a potential rebound in global spending, and AI-related (artificial intelligence-related) opportunities, have set the stage for an optimistic start to the Q1 (Apr-Jun) earnings season," Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Investments, said. "A continuation of better-than-expected Q1 results should help alleviate concerns about future earnings growth."
However, renewed concern about the situation in West Asia will continue to cloud the outlook for banks' earnings, analysts said. The Nifty Bank Friday settled at 58045.90 points, largely unchanged on week. The fillip provided by a 4.3% rise in shares of IndusInd Bank was negated by a 4.8% fall in shares of Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Federal Bank's shares rose 1% over the week after S&P Global Ratings Thursday assigned the bank a long-term issuer credit rating of "BBB-" with "stable" outlook following the acquisition of 10% stake in the lender by Blackstone-managed funds.
In a technical note, Bajaj Broking said, "Bank Nifty formed a second bullish candlestick pattern with a higher high and a higher low signaling pullback for the second session. Index in the process closed above Wednesday gap down area signaling strength in banking stocks. Going ahead index to consolidate in the range of 56,500–58,700. A weakness below Wednesday's low 56,550 will open downside towards the key short-term support of 55,500-55,000 levels. On the higher side only a move above 58,700 being the last swing high will signal resumption of the up-move towards 59,200 and 60,000 level in the coming weeks, being the 138.2% and 150% external retracement of the previous decline from 57,456 to 52,783."
