NEW DELHI – Domestic airlines carried 15.39 million passengers in May, up 9.5% on year, data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Tuesday showed. InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.'s IndiGo airline retained its dominant position despite its market share declining slightly to 64.9% in May from 65% in April. The airline carried 9.99 million passengers in May, up from 8.97 million passengers in April. The airline's passenger load factor grew to 86.4% in May from 82.7% in April.
The Air India group's market share improved to 25.6% in May from 24.7% in April. The airline carried 3.93 million passengers during the month, up from 3.41 million passengers ferried in April. Its passenger load factor improved to 83.5% in May, from 78.5% in April.
Akasa Air's market share remained unchanged in May at 5.8%. The airline carried 890,000 passengers in May, against 795,000 in April. Its passenger load factor improved to 92.5% in May from 91.8% in April.
SpiceJet's market share declined to 2.5% in May from 3.4% in April. It carried 386,000 passengers, against 474,000 in April. Its passenger load factor, however, improved to 87.4% in May from 80.7% in April. End
