--Sitharaman: India's toy market to reach $5 bln by 2034
NEW DELHI – The toy market in India is projected to grow to $5 billion by 2034 and has the potential to grow further, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Tuesday. The toy industry is showing a growth trajectory and "it will augur very well for us", she said at the International Toy Biz 2026.
At present, India is exporting toys to 153 countries. In the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) alone, India exported toys worth $186 million, Sitharaman said, while imports of toys declined 71?tween FY19 and FY26. Earlier, toy imports were concentrated from one country, she pointed out. These toys were cheap but not safe for children.
Talking about India's growth projection, Sitharaman said the global toy market is expected to grow to $179 billion by 2032. "We are still aiming for $5 billion by 2034," she said. "I think we are capable of doing a lot better. We have immense potential to capture, at least aim for, one-quarter of it and not stay at $5 billion." End
