Tata Motors' CV despatches jump 35% YoY in June, exports zoom 83%

MUMBAI – Tata Motors Ltd. Wednesday said it sold 40,805 commercial vehicles in June to dealerships in India and abroad, and recorded a 35% on-year growth. While all the categories showed strength, small cargo and pick-up vehicles did the heavy lifting in June. The company's domestic sales grew 31% on year to 36,599 units.
The company's exports jumped 83% on year to 4,206 units in June, registering the highest growth in seven months. "For our international business, we have commenced shipments for the Indonesia order, and are gradually resuming supplies to the Middle East, following a two-month pause," Tata Motors said.
Small cargo and pick-up vehicles contributed the most to Tata Motors' commercial vehicle sales volumes and registered the strongest year-on-year growth among all. Their despatches surged 37% on year to 13,728 units. Wholesale sales of passenger carriers grew 24% on year to 7,040 units in June. "Demand in the commercial passenger segment remains strong, driven by school transport and Government orders," Tata Motors said.
Tata Motors sold 9,645 heavy commercial vehicles in June, up 31% on year. The demand for these vehicles was on the back of increased freight availability, infrastructure, and mining activity. The company sold 6,186 units of intermediate, light, and medium commercial vehicles, up 27% on year. Growth in this category was supported by e-commerce, fast-moving consumer goods, couriers and parcels, the Tata group-owned company said.
In the June quarter, the company sold 108,488 commercial vehicles and the sales grew 27% on year. In India, the company sold 100,348 units to dealerships, up 26% from the year-ago quarter. Exports in the June quarter grew 35% on year to 8,140 units.
For the March quarter, Tata Motors had reported a net profit of INR 24.06 billion on revenue of INR 244.52 billion. At 1503 IST, shares of Tata Motors traded 2% higher at INR 431.90 on the National Stock Exchange. End
