MUMBAI – Hero MotoCorp Ltd. Wednesday said it sold 541,159 two-wheelers to dealerships in June, down over 2% on year, the first decline in eight months. On a month-on-month basis, the sales fell over 5%. Its VAHAN registrations across India, barring Telangana, grew 18% on year to 466,000 in June. Sales of its electric scooters under the Vida brand nearly tripled on year in June.
The company's domestic sales fell over 4% on year and over 6% on month to 502,890 units. Exports grew 33% on year and 14% on month to 38,269 units. The growth in exports was the slowest in three months. Despatches of its motorcycles fell 6% on year and almost 5% on month to 478,701 units, while wholesale sales of its scooters jumped to 62,458 units from 41,305 units a year ago.
The company's domestic motorcycle and scooter business sustained a healthy positive momentum into June, Hero MotoCorp said. "The growth was primarily driven by the scooter portfolio, which achieved strong double-digit growth, while motorcycle demand remained resilient," the company said.
In the June quarter, the company sold a total of 1.68 million two-wheelers to domestic and overseas dealerships, registering near 23% growth. Of this, 1.48 million were motorcycles and 193,058 were scooters. While motorcycles made the major chunk of total sales, its sales growth was nearly 17% on year for the June quarter, whereas scooters volume more than doubled on year, indicating strong appetite for scooters in the market. In the same period, the company exported 105,206 two-wheelers, 63% higher than in the year-ago quarter.
The Splendor maker had reported net profit of INR 14.01 billion for the March quarter on revenue of INR 127.97 billion. At 1344 IST, its shares traded slightly higher at INR 4,801.10 on the National Stock Exchange. End
