Weighted avg lending rate on new bank loans rises 1 bp MoM to 8.51% in May

MUMBAI – The weighted average lending rate on fresh rupee loans of scheduled commercial banks rose one basis point sequentially to 8.51% in May. The average lending rate on fresh rupee loans was the highest in six months in May, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Tuesday showed.
The weighted average lending rate on fresh rupee loans by foreign banks rose to 8.05% in May from 7.78% in April, while that of private-sector banks fell 7 bps to 9.12%. The weighted average lending rate on fresh rupee loans of public-sector banks increased 6 bps to 7.93% in May.
The weighted average lending rate on outstanding rupee loans of scheduled commercial banks fell 1 bp to 8.97% in May. The one-year median marginal cost of funds-based lending rate of scheduled commercial banks fell 15 bps month-on-month to 8.50% in June.
The weighted average rate on fresh rupee term deposits of scheduled commercial banks rose 5 bps sequentially to 5.84% in May. The weighted average rate on outstanding rupee term deposits was 6.57% in May, down 2 bps from April. End
