MUMBAI – Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. Tuesday said it has entered into a share purchase and subscription agreement with Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Co. Group's subsidiary Terminal Investment Ltd. Per the agreement, Terminal Investment will invest $1.4 billion through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Mundi Ltd., to acquire 49% stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd., Adani Ports said in an exchange filing.
The Vizhinjam port in Kerala has an existing capacity of 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units and is in the process of increasing it to 5.7 million twenty-foot equivalent units, Adani Ports said. The deal marks the third major collaboration between Adani Ports and Mediterranean Shipping Co. following joint ventures at ports in Mundra, Gujarat, and Ennore, Tamil Nadu. The agreement also represents the single largest foreign private investment in Indian port infrastructure, according to the filing.
Monday, shares of Adani Ports closed at INR 1,776.10 on the National Stock Exchange, over 1% lower from Thursday. The stock market was shut Friday for Muharram. For the March quarter, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 33.3 billion on revenues of INR 107.4 billion. End
