MUMBAI – Tata Steel UK Ltd. is preparing its pickle line at the Llanwern factory to handle more than one million tonnes annually to deal with the impact on its business from the significant fire-caused damage to a critical processing line at its Port Talbot factory in early June, the company said in an update Monday.
Production has started at the company's sister plant at Llanwern after the fire put the pickle line at the Port Talbot plant "out of action." This will help Tata Steel to support customers while plans for the new pickle line at Port Talbot move forward. The processing capacity of the pickle line at Llanwern will be raised to one million tonnes annually from around 70,000 tonnes, the company said. Moreover, Llanwern's five-stand cold rolling mill has been brought back into service after being mothballed since last October. "Over the coming months, operations will continue to ramp up towards 24/7 production," it added.
Tata Steel UK is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Steel Ltd. For the March quarter, Tata Steel's consolidated net profit was INR 29.26 billion on revenues of INR 632.70 billion. Monday, shares of the company closed 0.5% higher at INR 189.57 on the National Stock Exchange. End
