MUMBAI – Pune-based automotive major Bajaj Auto Ltd. plans to focus on its international business even more in 2026-27 (Apr-Mar), driven by the recovery across key international markets, the company's Chairman Niraj Bajaj said in the company's annual report for FY26. "While the domestic business remained resilient, exports gathered strong momentum during the year and emerged as a major growth driver," Bajaj said, adding that the ability of one business offsetting weakness in the other is a defining strength of the company.

In FY26, Bajaj Auto sold 5.11 million automobiles in India and overseas, up 10% on year. While domestic sales grew only 3% on year to 2.87 million units, exports surged 21% to 2.25 million units. "We expect export momentum to sustain, supported by improving macroeconomic conditions across our key markets," the company said.

Bajaj Auto was the top seller in nine of the 15 key motorcycle export markets in FY26. The company saw maximum growth in motorcycle exports to East Africa and South Asia markets. Its performance in the commercial vehicle segment overseas was even better. The company maintained its top spots in 11 of the 12 key export markets. In this segment, the Asia and West Africa markets registered very steep year-on-year growth.

The company wants to sharpen its focus on motorcycles with an engine capacity of over 125 cubic centimetres, which it terms "strategically important", Bajaj said. Accelerating the momentum of the recently acquired KTM business and the Triumph brand is a key priority for FY27, he added.

Bajaj Auto will also scale up its recent foray into the electric rickshaw segment under the Riki and WEGO brands. The company is India's top electric rickshaw seller in the L5 segment.

For the quarter ended March, Bajaj Auto reported a net profit of INR 27.46 billion on revenue of INR 160.06 billion. At 1328 IST, its shares traded 1.6% higher at INR 9,910 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
