MUMBAI/NEW DELHI – Adani group founder and Adani Enterprises Ltd. Executive Chairman Gautam Adani Wednesday said the company has enough financial strength, liquidity, and confidence to fund ambitious capital expenditure plans across companies in India's core infrastructure sectors. "From mining and power generation to transmission and distribution to ports and logistics to data centres and fulfilment centres and roads to water, we have the ability to connect every critical layer of infrastructure that is needed to power the age of intelligence," Adani told investors at the company's annual general meeting.
The wide array of core infrastructure and utility companies run by the group is held under the holding company Adani Enterprises. The company invested over INR 1.5 trillion towards "hard" infrastructure in the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), Adani said. This, he said, represented over 30% of India's new private sector capital expenditure in FY26.
"For us, this is more than a financial number. It is a statement of belief and there can be no stronger testimony to our commitment to nation-building than the scale at which we continue to invest in the infrastructure that will power India's next chapter," Adani said.
In January, Adani Enterprises raised INR 249.30 billion through a rights issue, which was originally planned for 2023 but was derailed due to a research report published by US-based Hindenburg Research flagging alleged corporate governance issues. However, the company's eventual rights issue was fully subscribed.
"We have always been defined by not the noise that surrounds us, but the strength of our response, not the intensity of the challenge, but the clarity of our purpose, not the criticism, but the nation-building we intensely believe in," Adani said. "This (the rights issue) was more than a capital event. I saw it as a referendum on our credibility. It was one of the largest rights issues in the history of India Inc., your response was very clear," he said, adding that when "some" tried to create doubts, investors answered with "conviction."
Going forward, the company is putting in place a three-layer structure across its offices to cut bureaucracy, improve accountability, and bring decisions closer to execution. The company will move non-core activities to global capability centres or to nominated partners and will improve its working style with contractors. Additionally, the Adani group will work on improving working conditions for its staff.
Adani Enterprises is the holding company of various companies, including Adani Green Energy Ltd., Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., Adani Total Gas Ltd., and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd.
Through Adani Gas, the company wants to boost its piped natural gas projects to meet India's rising demand for more accessible gas. The Centre has been at the forefront of promoting piped natural gas connections over liquefied petroleum gas cylinders to meet household gas demand – a project accelerated by the war in West Asia, which upended energy supply chains.
Adani group formally entered India's civil nuclear energy sector through Adani Atomic Energy Ltd. It is targeting to build 10 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity by 2035. "With land identified...we are positioning ourselves early to solve the growing national demand for clean round-the-clock power," Adani said.
For the March quarter, Adani Enterprises had reported a consolidated net loss of INR 2.21 billion on revenue of INR 324.39 billion. At 1153 IST, its shares traded 2.3% higher at INR 3,028.90 on the National Stock Exchange. End
