NEW DELHI - The government will sell up to 2% stake in Indian Railway Finance Corp. Ltd. through an offer for sale, Divestment Secretary Arunish Chawla said Tuesday. The offer for sale will open on Wednesday for non-retail investors and on Thursday for retail investors, Chawla said.

"Government offers to disinvest 1% equity in the IRFC along with additional 1% as green shoe option," Chawla said in a post on X.

The company is yet to announce the floor price for the offer for sale. Shares of the company Tuesday closed at INR 98.67 on the National Stock Exchange, down 2.2% from the previous close. For the March quarter, IRFC reported net profit of INR 16.84 billion on a total revenue of INR 73.36 billion.

The government holds 84.65% stake in IRFC. If the government exercises the greenshoe option, its shareholding in the railway financier will reduce to 82.65?ter the offer for sale. At the stock's closing price, the government will raise nearly INR 26 billion by selling 2% stake in IRFC. If the government reduces its stake by only 1%, it will raise INR 13 billion.

The government has set an ambitious target of INR 800 billion from miscellaneous capital receipts in 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). So far this fiscal, the government has thrust the accelerator on its divestment plan, and has announced minority stake sales in many state-owned companies.  End
