MUMBAI – Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, which operates vehicles under the Bharat Benz brand, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Centre to provide discounts for the replacement of old trucks and buses plying in Delhi NCR, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways said in a release on Tuesday. The company will offer an 8% discount on the ex-showroom prices of eligible commercial vehicles purchased under the government's scheme.

To top it off, the Centre will provide 5% interest subvention and fixed monthly fuel vouchers for five years. State governments will provide up to 100% concession on motor vehicle tax for 10 years and waive registration fees for eligible beneficiaries. The discount on electric vehicles will be capped at the discount applicable to a vehicle running on conventional fuel of the equivalent gross vehicle weight category.

Daimler India follows Ashok Leyland Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and SML Mahindra Ltd., which have also entered into memoranda of understanding with the government to provide discounts for the replacement of trucks and buses. The Cabinet earlier in June approved an INR 95.85-billion scheme to replace ageing commercial vehicles in the capital region in a bid to boost clean mobility.   End
