Grasim ups stake in Aditya Birla Capital via preferential issue

NEW DELHI – Grasim Industries Ltd. Tuesday said it has acquired 80.9 million additional shares of Aditya Birla Capital Ltd. through a preferential allotment worth about INR 28.80 billion, marginally increasing its stake in the financial services company. Aditya Birla Capital allotted 80.9 million equity shares to Grasim at INR 356.02 apiece, including a premium of INR 346.02 per share, for a total consideration of INR 28.80 billion, the company said in an exchange filing.  

 

Following the allotment, Grasim's shareholding in Aditya Birla Capital increased to 52.30% on a fully diluted basis from 52.27% before the issue. The capital raise is aimed at supporting the financial services company's growth plans, strengthening its capital base, meeting lending requirements, and other corporate purposes.  

 

Aditya Birla Capital operates across lending, asset management, life and health insurance, housing finance, broking, pension fund management and asset reconstruction businesses. For the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), Aditya Birla Capital had reported consolidated revenue from operations of INR 455.08 billion and net profit of INR 37.64 billion.

 

For the March quarter, Grasim had reported a net loss of INR 1.64 billion on revenues of INR 117.74 billion. At 1307 IST, shares of the company traded at INR 3,139 per share on the National Stock Exchange, down 1.1%.  End
