India April net FDI inflows jump to $6.58 bln

NEW DELHI – India saw net foreign direct investment inflows of $6.58 billion in April, up sharply from $917 million a month earlier, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India Monday. India had recorded net FDI inflows of $1.59 billion a year ago.
The gross FDI inflow jumped over twofold on year and over 65% on month to $15.29 billion in April. Repatriations were at $3.90 billion in April, up from $3.16 billion in March but lower than $4.27 billion a year ago. "India's external sector remained resilient, supported by FDI inflows and adequate foreign exchange reserves," RBI said in the 'State of the Economy' paper published in the Bulletin for June..
Outward FDI by India was $4.82 billion in April, up nearly 89% on month and nearly 42% on year. The FDI outflow was $2.56 billion in March and $3.40 billion a year ago.
Sectorally, financial services received the highest share of equity inflows, the RBI said. This was followed by retail and wholesale trade, manufacturing and computer services, the RBI said, adding that these four sectors accounted for more than 80% of the total inflows.
"During April 2026, net FDI remained above its corresponding level during the previous year, supported by higher gross inflows and lower repatriation," the RBI said. In terms of source, more than 75% of the FDI flows came from Japan, Singapore, and Mauritius, the RBI said. End
