MUMBAI - NSE Indices Ltd. Wednesday said it was excluding Vedanta Power Ltd. and Vedanta Iron and Steel Ltd. from 24 Nifty indices, including Nifty Next 50, Nifty 100, Nifty 200, and Nifty 200, with effect from Friday. Post-demerger of Vedanta Ltd., four companies--Vedanta Power, Vedanta Iron and Steel, Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd., and Vedanta Oil and Gas Ltd--had got listed on the NSE on Jun. 15, the NSE group company said.

 

The NSE group company said as per the index methodology applicable for such cases, since "Vedanta Power and Vedanta Iron and Steel have not hit the lower price band on two consecutive days" on Tuesday and Wednesday, the index maintenance sub-committee (equity) decided to exclude them from the indices. It also specified that even if any of the two companies' shares hit the lower price band on Thursday, "the exclusion shall not be deferred further."

 

Wednesday, shares of Vedanta Power closed 5% higher at INR 42 on the National Stock Exchange. On its first listing day on Monday, the company's stock had closed at INR 40.94 and on Tuesday it had closed at INR 40.

 

Wednesday, shares of Vedanta Iron and Steel closed 5% higher at INR 23.21 on the NSE. On its first listing day on Monday, the company's shares had closed at INR 21.06, and on Tuesday at INR 22.11.  End
