NEW DELHI – The annual domestic defence production surged to an all-time high of INR 1.78 trillion in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), up 15.6% from INR 1.54 trillion in FY25, the Ministry of Defence said in a press release Wednesday. Defence public sector undertakings and other state-owned companies accounted for around 76% of total production in FY26, while the private sector contributed 24%, a rise from 22% in FY25.

 

In FY26, the share of the private sector in defence production hit an all-time high of around INR 420 billion. Defence exports hit a record high of INR 384.24 billion in FY26, as per the defence ministry. 

 

"The remarkable rise in India's defence production in recent years is the result of the collective efforts of the department of defence production and all other stakeholders," Rajnath Singh, minister of defence said in a post on X. "This upward trajectory is a clear indicator of the country's expanding defence industrial base. With sustained policy support, several new initiatives, increased private sector participation, and growing export capabilities, the defence production sector is poised for continued acceleration in the years ahead."  End
