NEW DELHI – Analysts are positive on stocks of telecommunication companies in the near term on the back of improving fundamental factors for the sector. The expected tariff hike in the coming quarter is seen as the next major trigger for these stocks, however, analysts are divided on the implementation timeline. While some now believe companies may delay the hike due to larger inflationary pressures facing customers in light of the issues arising from the war in West Asia, others disagree.
"I think they would rather push it forward because inflation is already there...we would gradually be seeing inflation hitting our pockets as well. So here also, tariff hike is quite a possibility in the next quarter. My sense is that the way all the costs are now being passed on to the consumers...here also, this is quite a possibility," said Sugandha Sachdeva, founder of equity, commodity, and currency research firm SS WealthStreet.
Coming week, the BSE Telecommunication index is likely to find initial support at 3380 points and face resistance at 3710 points, according to Ganesh Angaj, head technical analyst at NVS Brokerage Pvt. Ltd. Beyond these levels, Angaj estimated support and resistance at 3300 points and 3820 points, respectively.
Friday, the key sectoral index ended 2.7% higher at 3575.02 points. Barring Tata Communications, all the index constituents ended the session in the green. However, the index dropped 1.5% over the week.
