NEW DELHI – Hitachi Energy India Ltd. Friday said it will invest around INR 20 billion to set up a large power transformer manufacturing facility in Karjan, Vadodara, Gujarat. The new factory, scheduled to be completed in 2027-28 (Apr-Mar), will manufacture large power transformers for applications including high-voltage transmission, high-voltage direct current projects, power generation, artificial intelligence data centres and industrial projects, the company said in an exchange filing.

The company had announced the plans of INR 20 billion along with its March quarter earnings in May, but the latest filing mentions some other details about the facility. "The new large power transformer factory will complement Hitachi Energy India Limited's existing footprint of power, dry distribution and traction transformer factories in Gujarat state, and transformer insulation and components factories in Mysore and Halol," the company said in the exchange filing.

The Vadodara facility will be a fully digital manufacturing unit equipped with smart manufacturing technologies and end-to-end digital connectivity, enabling data-driven operations aimed at improving productivity, quality and delivery performance.

The factory is being designed as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified site, with a focus on energy efficiency, responsible resource use and lower environmental impact. Once operational, the plant is expected to create more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs and manufacture large power transformers for high-voltage transmission networks, power generation facilities, artificial intelligence data centres, and large industrial applications.

For the March quarter, the company reported a net profit of INR 3.30 billion on revenues of INR 27.54 billion. At IST 1155, shares of the company traded at INR 34,240 on the National Stock Exchange, up nearly 3%.   End
