MUMBAI – The mutual fund industry recorded net outflows of INR 640.21 billion in May against net inflows of INR 3.22 trillion in April, data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India Wednesday showed. This was due to sharp net outflows from open-ended debt funds during the month, the data showed.

 

The mutual fund industry's total assets under management fell marginally to INR 81.58 trillion as of May 31 from INR 81.92 trillion as of Apr. 30. 

 

Open-ended debt funds saw net outflows of INR 969.49 billion in May. Of these, net outflows from liquid funds stood at INR 296.81 billion, while net outflows from money market funds was INR 246.92 billion. The assets under management under the open-ended debt funds fell to INR 18.25 trillion in May from INR 19.14 trillion in April.

 

 

Equity mutual funds recorded net inflows of INR 229.08 billion in May, down over 40% from inflows of INR 384.40 billion in April. The AUM of open-ended equity funds stood at INR 36.14 trillion as of May 31 as compared to an AUM of INR 35.74 trillion at the end of April. Among equity categories, flexi cap funds saw the highest net inflows of INR 51.76 billion with an AUM of INR 5.64 trillion. The net inflows of small-cap funds at the end of May was INR 49.46 billion with an AUM of INR 4.04 trillion.

 

Gold exchange-traded funds recorded net outflows of INR 7.25 billion in May. In April, open-ended gold ETFs had recorded net inflows of INR 30.40 billion. Open-ended silver ETFs recorded net inflows of INR 21.33 billion in May as opposed to net outflows of INR 1.26 billion during April.  End
