--Patanjali Foods gets Maharashtra FDA notice on misleading juice advt
NEW DELHI - Patanjali Foods Ltd. Tuesday said it has received a notice from the Joint Commissioner (Drugs), Food and Drug Administration, Maharashtra, over promotional and labelling claims made for its Patanjali Karela Jamun Juice product.
The notice, issued under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, states that certain promotional, advertising, and marketing representations related to the product may fall within the scope of diseases and conditions specified under the Act. Pending examination of the company's response, the regulator has directed Patanjali Foods to take measures including recall of the product, discontinuation of its distribution, sale and supply, withdrawal, or modification of certain promotional and labelling representations, followed by submission of a compliance report.
"The company is currently reviewing the contents of the communication in consultation with its legal advisors and is in the process of formulating an appropriate response. The Company will take all necessary actions in accordance with applicable law and regulatory requirements and does not presently anticipate any material impact on its business operations arising solely from the receipt of the notice," Patanjali Foods said in the exchange filing on Tuesday. The company needs to submit the compliance report within 15 days of receiving the notice. No monetary penalty has been imposed by the authority.
For the March quarter, Patanjali Foods reported a consolidated net profit of INR 5.24 billion on revenue of INR 111.56 billion. On Tuesday, shares of the company ended at INR 422.05 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.5%. End
